Looking Back: Satellite Championship at Country Club of New Bedford

On August 14, 2023, Christian Farland and Ronnie Ferrero completed five demanding days of competition to win the Country Club of New Bedford’s Satellite Championship.

Now, on February 23, 2026, as a SouthCoast snowstorm blankets the region, it feels like a completely different season. The fairways are covered in snow, the flags are long removed, and the pace of summer competition feels far away. But moments like that championship week continue to stand out.

Winning Through Adversity

Over five intense days, the tournament proved that golf is as much a mental challenge as it is physical. As Jeff Martin put it best, “You need to be able to win when you don’t play your best.” That mindset defined the week.

One of the most memorable moments came on Day 1. Down three holes with three to play, Christian and Ronnie rallied to win four straight holes and close out the match. It set the tone for the rest of the tournament. They grinded through every round, whether ahead or behind, refusing to let momentum slip.

Support Behind the Scenes

Success on the course never happens in isolation. Christian credits his wife, Sara, for managing responsibilities at home during tournament week, including caring for their newborn and children at the time. Appreciation also extends to the teams at Farland Corp and Seaport Realty for keeping operations running smoothly.

Ronnie Ferrero, a close friend and CAGA Brother, delivered when it mattered most. The partnership, built on trust and years of friendship, proved critical in key moments throughout the tournament.

Looking Ahead

Beyond the competition, golf represents something larger. It builds lifelong friendships, shared memories, and traditions that carry from one generation to the next. The Satellite Championship is made possible by the countless hours invested by the club’s leadership team, maintenance crew, staff, Golf Pro Richie and his team, and the dedicated members of the Country Club of New Bedford.

As winter settles in and snow continues to fall across the SouthCoast, the focus shifts from scorecards to snowplows. Before long, spring will return, the greens will reappear, and another season will begin.
